KENTUCKY FOUNDATION FOR WOMEN NAMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

The Kentucky Foundation for Women announces the appointment of three new board members.

“The staff and current board of KFW are happy to welcome new board members from northern Kentucky and far western Kentucky as well as from Louisville . The Foundation is working hard to extend its reach and include feminist artists and activists from across the state. By engaging new leaders, we can create and promote art that supports positive changes for women and girls throughout the Commonwealth. When women and girls advance, so do their families and communities,” said Dr. Judi Jennings, director of the Kentucky Foundation for Women.

New members include:

Carolyn Ballinger of Florence is Associate Professor of Nursing for Gateway Community and Technical College . Ballinger, who has a background in nursing and education, is past president of the Kentucky Nursing Association. She is a mentor for junior high students with Across the Ages, a program which encourages students to stay in school, and serves as Chair of the college’s Women’s History Month Committee and a member of its Cultural Diversity Committee.

Sarah Gutwirth of New Concord is Associate Professor in the Fine Arts Department at Murray State University. Committed to the power of feminist art to create social change, Gutwirth has mentored women artists in Kentucky and at schools across the United States. While teaching at SUNY Potsdam, she helped establish a Women’s Studies Minor and chaired the school’s Affirmative Action Committee. She brings the same positive energy to her work with students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds at MSU.

Adrien-Alice Hansel of Louisville is Literary Manager for Actors Theatre of Louisville. She earned a MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism from Yale School of Drama in 2003 and served as Associate Literary Manager of Yale Repertory Theatre from 2000 to 2004. Through her work, she promotes adversity of perspectives and sees the role of art in challenging cultural norms.

The three new members join a seven-member board that oversees KFW’s finances, grantmaking policies and practices, artist residency and retreat center, strategic planning and statewide outreach.
