Art Meets Activism

In our recent artist needs survey most respondents supported changing the spring grants cycle to reflect artist’s needs during COVID-19. Therefore, the Arts Meets Activism (AMA) grant cycle will be offered in Fall 2021.

Applications for AMA 2021 will be due Friday, September 3 at 5 pm ET. The online application for AMA 2021 will go live in August 2021. In the meantime, you can learn about the application process and preview last year’s application questions by clicking here.

Join us for our Paducah (Friday, August 6 from 4:30 to 6 pm CT) or Virtual (Tuesday, August 10 from 5:30 to 7 pm ET) Open Houses! Meet like-minded artists and recent KFW grantees who will share tips from their own grant writing experience! Learn about the KFW grant application process! The AMA grant supports feminist artists and organizations in Kentucky to engage individuals and communities in artmaking that directly advances positive social change.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment to feminism, their ability to engage community members, and have a concrete plan for positive social change through arts-based activities.

Applicants may request funds for a range of art activities that address social change including but not limited to: community participation in creating art, collaborative or individualized artmaking with women and/or girls, artists’ creation of new work in a community context, or arts education programs primarily focused on women or girls.

Applicants to the AMA grant program, like the AE grant program, should show high artistic quality in the work sample, and should be able to demonstrate their commitment to feminism and their understanding of the relationship between art and social change. Both grant programs are arts-based and feminist in nature.
